Quick! It’s an emergency! You just got an urgent call about a family emergency and had to rush to the airport with barely time to grab your wallet and your passport. But now, you’re stuck at the airport with nothing to read. What do you do??
And, no, you did NOT have time to grab your bookbag, or the book next to your bed. You were . . . grocery shopping when you got the call and have nothing with you but your wallet and your passport (which you fortuitously brought with you in case they asked for ID in the ethnic food aisle). This is hypothetical, remember….
This is pretty much how I travel anyway. I can’t read for any large length of time in a moving vehicle (even an airplane), not to mention that if there’s a video screen anywhere near me, I’m usually drawn to it like crack. So, while I bring books for the destination, I pack magazines for the trip. If I’m stuck in an airport for any length of time, I usually buy the magazines there.
The only time I have actually allowed myself to buy People magazine was for airplane trips. Other than that, I usually get a few of the cooking mags I don’t usually buy, or one of the more generic lifestyle mags. Still can’t quite bring myself to actually purchase Cosmo, but Glamour does pretty well for light reading.
I have tried to bring books along for the ride before, but I tend to read them for about five minutes at a time, and have to keep shifting them in and out of my bag, and that just drives me crazy. I’m much more of a read in a nice solid chair or bed girl.
