CSA 2010 Week 1

CSA Haul

As part of our effort to eat better this year, the BF and I have joined a CSA. I chose Laughing Stock Farm out of Freeport for the following reasons: 1. the awesome name, 2. the awesome veggie list and 3. the Portland pick up location.

The first pick up was Wednesday night. It’s still early in the season, so the load was light, but I came away with harukai turnips, some lovely yellow chard, a head of lettuce, and some mesclun mix. We’ve been enjoying the lettuce (BF’s comment was: “If all we get is salads that taste this good all summer, I’ll be happy), and I used the turnips in a saute last night. They were actually pretty good, but I think I liked the greens even better. We’ve already decided that if we get more, we’re going to try roasting them.

So, so far, so good. I’m definitely looking forward to when production starts to ramp up later in the season.
