Elf Magic – ed. Martin Greenberg

Read for the Once Upon a Time V Reading Challenge.

This anthology has a wide ranging selection of stories held together only in that they needed to involved elves. Some were funny, some more serious, and one so awful I couldn’t finish it.

A few highlights:

“The Phaerie Bride” – a great twist on the old Scottish tale of Thomas the Rhymer, with a touch of Cinderella for good measure.

“The Last Warrior” – the story of the end of Ragnarok, and how a simple elf must make a choice that will determine the fate of the rest of time. Really interesting twist on that story.

“The Shoemaker and the Elvis” – it’s exactly what the title implies, blue suede shoes and all.

“Elf Help” – a second twist on the shoemaker and the elves, with a rather different ending.
