I was impatient enough to immediately pick up the second Black Jewels book. The stories picks up up with Jaenelle coming to terms with the rather terrible event that ended the first book, and going to live with Saetan and his sons in Kaeleer. With Jaenelle actually living with him, Saetan begins to see first hand the depths of the power and charisma that Jaenelle commands. She has many friends in Kaeleer, friends she made from a young age, traveling to the Shadow Realm at a time when most witches haven’t even begun to understand their power.
This book is a fair amount of fun. Jaenelle runs roughshod in Saetan’s life, constantly surprising him with her abilities, and it’s rather amusing to see the High Lord of Hell reducing to speechlessness.
This book ends with the events that force Jaenelle to make the offering that will bring her into her full power, a power that no one has ever seen before. The next book will pick up with her forming her court, and I’m definitely interested to see where the story goes from here.
