For something a little different this year, my mother and I are splitting a share from the Out on Limb apple CSA, from Super Chilly Farm in Palermo. There will be five drops through November, with a variety of rare cooking and dessert apples.
This week had six varieties: Wealthy, Charette, Whitney, September Ruby, St. Lawrence, Milton, and Garden Royal. I’ve already sampled the Whitney and September Ruby (the September Ruby and Charette we only got one a piece of, so I got the September Ruby, and my mother got the Charette), and I’m planning on making a crisp this weekend, probably with the Wealthys.
My favorite this week visually, is the St. Lawrence (above), which has the coolest stripes.
