This is the conclusion of “The Reckoners” Trilogy – David is now in charge, with the impossible task of rescuing the Prof from himself, and maybe just saving the world in the process.
It’s a definite end to the story, but I think I liked the first two books better. In this book, we get to see Atlanta, which has turned into a city of salt that’s migrating across the country, rebuilding itself every week or so. The Prof has gone there to still the power of the Epic called Larceny – his power is that he steals the powers of other Epics. With that power, the Prof can go up to Calamity, who they now know to also be an Epic, and steal his power – becoming the most powerful Epic.
For all that set up, it’s over very quickly. It’s nice to see some side exploration of Megan’s real powers, but everything else seems rushed. Since I read this as an ebook, and didn’t have the physical copy in my hand to tell by page count, I was surprised when it ended. It felt like there should have been a little more to it.
