Embroidery Notes

William Morris Cross stitch

So apparently my reaction to the pandemic is to craft – I feel like I’m in a run of small knitting items. And, because I’m apparently insane, I wanted to add to that. I’ve tried some straight embroidery lately, but I used to do cross stitch back in the day, and figured that would be good to go back to. I don’t know exactly what I had in mind, and I can’t even remember what I started looking for, but when I stumbled across this William Morris design adaptation on Etsy, I was sold.

I may be insane. But, it’s all cross stitch with no half stitches or back stitch, so I can work on it later than I usually can knitting – as long as I keep my ability to count, it’s still good.

I am really glad I didn’t buy the linen I was originally going to get. Picking out the holes in 16 count Aida is occasionally way more interesting than I remember it being with younger eyes. And black fabric was not the best choice in hindsight. But it’s going to keep me from having to stitch any of the black sections, and I can live with it otherwise. I just definitely need to keep that in mind for future projects.
So we’ll see how long this takes me. It’s nine panels in the pattern.
