Red Sister – Mark Lawrence

A young girl is saved from hanging by a nun, but definitely not a nun as we know them. The sisters of the Ancestor serve in many ways, included as warriors or spies. Nona has very little idea of what she’s getting into when she becomes a student at the convent.

I’m really intrigued by the world building here – there seems to be something pretty big going on that could be very interesting to see to its end. I also really liked the female centric world here – a lot of what the nuns do could go to men.

Nona’s enemies are also interesting, and I do want to see where the story goes. I guess what I’m trying to say is this was a great set up to the series, and I’m glad I already have the second book.
