This has been my project for several afternoons when it’s been nice after work – a corral for the leaf pile. I had to actually get it together, which I did around the larger left pile we had in the back corner, and then shift the rest of the pile into it, and close it up. Then, I moved the smaller pile over from the other side of the shed into it. So the above is more or less what we can get from one season’s worth of leaves. We’re trying to decide if we need to make a second one, and alternate years. We’re also trying to decide if we want to put yard waste into it, or just leave it as dead material.

I also put this together over several days, when I wanted a little break from work. (I will miss the ability to do that when we do go back to the office.) The top is going to be lettuce and/or arugula, since we do like to have those, but not in super large amounts. In the bottom, I’ll put some herbs, in individual small pots so it’ll be easier to deal with them at the end of the season. (I’ll probably try to get a rosemary, which I’ll have to overwinter side. I’ll also have thyme. The rest is still being thought out.)
