Garden Notes

This is the front bed we inherited – the rather lackluster Stella d’Oro daylilies in the back came it, as well as the mum to the right, and a pink clary sage to the left. We ended up throwing together a red, yellow and blue theme for it, and considering how poor the soil is, it looks pretty good.

The standout has been these dahlias that the BF picked up on a whim while he was out and about during Memorial Day weekend. They were already blooming at that point, and have continued to do so, even when I don’t get to deadheading as fast as I would always like. I’m definitely going to try and overwinter these tubers – this is a great plant!

Speaking of dahlias, here’s a sampling of what’s going on with the big guys in the backyard right now. How cool are they? I totally get the obsession now. I’m going to have to be really careful about loading myself up on new tubers.
