What Abigail Did that Summer – Ben Aaronovitch

So we originally were buying our Rivers of London books in London, and once you start buying in one particular format, it’s better to keep at it. However, Covid put a real crimp in our ability to run by a Waterstones, so we finally broke down and started buying the ones we were missing here in the States. That does mean I’m now a bit behind in the series, so I started from the beginning again. I’m finally up to a book I have not read before.

This story takes place during Foxglove Summer, and it’s the story of what Peter’s 13-year-old cousin Abigail is up to while he’s out in the country trying to find some missing girls. Abigail’s run into some missing people of her own – teenagers who go missing in Hampstead Heath, but then come home later, very vague about where they’ve been.

I loved this story – we’re introduced to the talking foxes of London, who totally have a spy organization going on. And there’s also Abigail’s new friend Simon, but more importantly, his Mum, who is probably extremely kick ass, and better show up in some future action. And I really love that the events of this book set Abigail up to have some really cool adventures of her own in this universe, without having to join the Folly when she grows up.
