What an atmospheric little book. A man lives in a huge house full of statues – the bottom floor is often flooded by the sea, and the top floor is the domain of rain and storms. There is one Other that sometimes visits there, but our protagonist is happy being mostly alone – he’s the beloved child of this House.
Slowly, we discover that there are others that are visiting the House as well, and that triggers our protagonist to remember how he actually got there. And naturally, this turns everything he knows upside down.
It’s really hard to describe the story without giving it all away, but it’s worth reading for the descriptions of the House alone, and having the story open up as the protagonist’s world opens up just works so well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
