Genevieve is a fake spiritualist – a trade she learned from her mother. Unfortunately, she’s caught at her game, and because of some other history we’ll eventually be acquainted with, she’s sure to be headed to gallows. But then there’s a miraculous reprieve – the lawyer for a rich estate that has recently suffered a devastating loss rescues her to help.
The lawyer wants her to convince the newly minted lord of the estate that his fiancée, who died on the morning of their wedding, is at peace. The lord is convinced she was murdered, and doubles down on Genevieve to do a séance to help him expose the murderer.
I enjoyed this – it’s a good, solid Gothic romance. The guesswork is to see exactly which road the author decides to travel down, and I was satisfied with that ride. I finished this in three nights – it was a good read.
