Garden Notes

back garden

Well, it’s September, and Mother Nature finally picked up on the fact that she didn’t torture us nearly enough with hot weather in August, so we got several days of humid 80s over the last week. I’ve pretty much given up any pretense of normalcy – I’m just rolling with whatever happens at this point. Two of my dahlias still haven’t bloomed, and we will not discuss the state of the blight on my tomatoes.

peppers

Happily, the peppers are finally going – I have ingredients on hand for some stuffed poblanos this week.

The runner beans are still going crazy – they’re tipping the trellis. I will definitely need to support that better if I plant them again like this next year. The flowers are almost totally gone, but the hummingbird is actually still around – saw him/her while I was out this morning.

I was out for the tongue of fire beans. We’re getting rain today, and the pods on those were dry enough I needed to get them out of the path of any water. We’ll see how many I get. I don’t think I’m going to grow them again (at least not on the trellis), so I don’t need to save the seed. It would be nice to have enough to cook a meal with them.
