Sherlock Holmes is dead – but Sarah, Nan and the Watsons know that that’s not true. He’s had to go to ground to defeat Moriarty. Moriarty is actually dead, but because he has a necromancer in his employ, that necromancer is doing his best to bring Moriarty back – which goes straight into rather grizzly Bluebeard territory.
I finally broke down and bought the two Sherlock Elemental books I hadn’t read used. I’d skipped right to the two American based newer stories when those came out – I think the Sherlock line went a bit over long. It’s not bad, but the fairy tale retellings are why I loved this series, and the two newer books, while not strictly fairy tales, went back to that general air. This book isn’t bad, but it’s pretty dark, and not in a way that I really wanted to return to. I will read the next one now that I have it, but I hope she continues with the American based tales.
