Amongst Our Weapons – Ben Aaronovitch

It’s funny – I recently happened upon a post on Reddit talking about the Rivers of London books, and asking if it was worth continuing, because they were finding Peter to be so immature in the early books. Which reminded me that I still needed to finish the last book (so far) in the series. Peter has been growing up as time has gone on, but this book is really hammering that home, as fatherhood is impending, and he’s taking on greater responsibility in the Folly.

This particular book involves an Angel of Death – and everyone involved with the Folly is initially very confused about where she could possibly come from – vampires, the fae and the river god(desses) are all well and good, but angels are outside of their experience. I really liked how that story ended up working.

I also really enjoyed the lead up to the birth of the twins – the foxes were absolutely a hoot, and it was interesting to see how Beverly’s status as a goddess worked into the normal process of becoming a parent.

Leslie is also back – I’m not sure I loved her involvement in this story. I’m hoping this particular career choice leads to more interesting stories later.
