A Mirror Mended – Alix E. Harrow

We pick up Zinnia’s story after A Spindle Splintered. She’s gotten a bit of a remission from her terminal diagnosis, and is using her newly opened up time to rescue other Sleeping Beautys from their fates across the fairy tale multiverse. And then one day, she finds herself in a Snow White story instead.

I like where the author went with this tale – Zinnia’s pretty sure of where things stand for the protagonists of these tales. But what about the villains? Did any of the Evil Stepmothers set out to be evil, or are they as big a victim of the narrative as the girls that the stories center around? If you’re going to write a feminist answer to these stories, you absolutely need to examine that question.
