Here are the garden beds on Monday, before our first frost.
Hilariously, not as much changed after that night as I’d have thought it should. The zinnias and zucchini were toast – I pulled those out in the middle of the week. What is shocking is that the dahlias are still alive. The foliage and the flowers that were out that night were crisped, but the buds are starting to come out again.
And to further the crazy, it got warm for the rest of the week, to the point where I had to pull some summer clothes out of storage to wear on Saturday. Things just aren’t normal around here.
So here’s the back garden after some clean up yesterday. (Note the draining rain barrel in the corner.) It’s already gotten significantly colder today, so I expect another frost within the next couple of days. I hope it’s soon – I want to get the dahlias to bed!
