This is a nice, cozy story. Fin is the new cook at the royal palace – he’s incredibly prickly and chases pretty much everyone out of the kitchen on day one. As we follow along the story, we find out it’s because he’s a house witch – and regular witches consider him defective. So, he’s got some interesting backstory developing,
This is a very cozy book – the action is mostly centered on relationship building among all sorts of people at the palace – from the servants to the king. There are some stakes involved, but nothing immediately earth-shattering. There are potentially higher stakes lurking on the horizon – I’ll be interested to see where those go, and if the author can maintain the cozy vibe.
