This is the second book in a series where the Godmother of this world may or may not be an evil enchantress – she’s constantly making deals with people that start out fine, quickly go downhill, but then turn out in such a way that everything will probably work out for the best.
We met Ella in the last book – her father has a tavern, and she’s the much put upon only staff. Our hero Rory meets her, and they hit it off, falling in love. He promises to come back for her, and we found out in the first book of the series why that didn’t happen. Now, we get the fall out of Rory’s story, when Ella makes her own deal with the Godmother.
I really enjoyed this – it’s got some nice twists on several different fairy tales. Rory and Ella are not the only characters – we get some nice returns, and some nice new stories. I’m really enjoying what the author is bringing to the table with her retellings.
