We finally get a story centered on Kimberley Adams, the FBI agent who’s been over to London a couple times to help out Peter. Along the way, she’s become the go to person at the FBI for ‘unusual occurrences’, aka magic.
That’s how she finds herself up in Wisconsin in the winter, with a snow storm bearing down on her. A retired FBI agent has called in with an old code word for weird stuff, so she’s promptly on her way. When she gets there, a snow tornado has come off the lake and leveled the town’s police station. And her FBI contact has been kidnapped.
We do get to meet a native genius loci – they’re river gods and goddesses in the UK, but the natives are a little different (think Native American lore, and you get the picture). I really enjoyed this little interlude, and would love to see more of this world in America.
