The Warden – Daniel M. Ford

Aelis has been drafted straight out of training to be the warden of Lone Pine, a town out on the frontier. It’s a far cry from the city where she grew up, and earning the trust of the people of Lone Pine proves harder than she could have imagined.

I liked this book, but it felt like a whole lot of set up for something that barely gets going before an enormous cliff hanger of an ending. I did like the world building, but it feels like the end got tacked onto that story – there’s a definite break in style. I’m interested to see what happens next, and I hope the story tightens up at that point as well.
