I’ve been sitting on this one for a while – I think it was a Kindle First Reads book, back when we actually had Prime. It’s a retelling of Pride and Prejudice, set in the Bennet women’s house at Longbourn College, which reminds me quite a bit of my New England liberal arts college experience, but with more cell phones. (I seriously cannot imagine college with cell phones – I am old.)
I did really like this take – the sisters are all friends in the dorm instead, and the Darcy character is a famous actor who was recently dumped by his more famous influencer girlfriend, who the Bingley character convinces to come back and finish college while his career is suffering. The villains are an interesting mix as well – several do multiple duties (I definitely missed who was supposed to be Mr. Collins).
It really works – it’s a thoroughly modern version of the tale, but when things are changed, they really make sense for life today. I enjoyed this.
