Garden Notes

Winter sowing

Hey, look! It’s January, and I’m doing a garden post!

I’m giving winter sowing a try this year. Got the seeds in just in time to finally get some snow on the ground again. This method is not meant to have the seeds sprout immediately, it’s to make them hardier when they do sprout.

I’m trying gem marigolds, calendula, delphinium, nicotiana, Swiss chard, broccoli, kale and romanesco. I’ll keep an eye on flowers – I can start some inside if it looks like nothing is happening outside.

So we’ll see how it goes. If this does work, it’ll be nice to free up some room under the grow lights.
