This is a fun book. Delaney and her sisters are the bulk of the police force in the small town of Ordinary, Oregon. What a good deal of the regular townsfolk don’t know is that Ordinary is a popular spot for the gods to come for a vacation from their regular lives, and Delaney’s family has been policing this for hundreds of years. As the oldest, with the sudden death of her father, she’s now the one in charge of managing the powers of the gods if one of them happens to die while they’re in mortal form on vacation. She’ll be in charge of finding a new mortal to take on that power.
Naturally, there’s a murder. Hijinks ensue. The investigation and all the characters around town are fun – all of this happens against the backdrop of the town’s rhubarb festival, which attracts a whole bunch of mortals that don’t need to know what else is going on.
The slight missing link to me was the love story – it’s very clear that something’s going on with Laney’s love interest, which I’m sure will be explained in future books, but his behavior in this book means there better be a damned good explanation.
