Knitting Notes

The Trisha sweater is going well. Which means I’m past the interesting bits in the yoke, and have moved into the endless stockinette portion of the body. What is cool about this is that it’s technically reverse stockinette, but the designer used short rows to turn things around so you’re knitting it as regular stockinette. Definitely remembering that trick.

I joined Kate Davies’ Making Light pattern club this year. I don’t usually do patterns on spec, but the theme of this club really called to me – contrasting the light and dark of late winter. I do generally like her designs, and even having the final book shipped over from Scotland was fairly reasonably priced, so I figured, why not? She did a really great job with it – the essays to go along with the patterns were varied, and interesting, and were a great distraction from this gloomy time of year. (The one written from the point of view of their dog was perfect!)

Not all the patterns were my cup of tea, as I expected (I really need drop shoulders to go out of style), but I really enjoyed the thought behind all of them, and I did get the yarn to do a couple right off the bat. (I also used my discount to grab the Milarrochy Heids book – I’ve had several of those on my wishlist for a while.) So, as a bit of a break from endless stockinette, I cast on the Sonsie hat. I’m loving this – the colorwork is a lot of fun. And I actually got the yarn it was written for. The Ooskit is a delight – it’s got that nice, sheepy, slightly unprocessed smell to it. I can tell it’ll be warm.
