I’m mildly annoyed with myself, for no good reason. I thought this had been a free Kindle deal, and was happy that I’d found one I actually enjoyed. And it turns out I paid for it, so I’m guess I’m annoyed that I know my own tastes and paid for a book I’d enjoy. I’m apparently having a weird day.
This is a post apocalyptic novel – general technology has backslid, but the very powerful are using advanced technology to consolidate their power.
We open in Atlanta, where Nina and her two friends are trying their best to take care of their neighbors. The three have very interesting backgrounds, which brings in our other group – Captain Knox and his squad of AWOL super soldiers from the Protectorate, who have been hired by someone to get Nina to Chattanooga.
Naturally, things get complicated. The two groups really get to like each other as they make the several day’s journey to Chattanooga. (Ha! I have a ton of coworkers in Chattanooga who day trip to Atlanta like I day trip to Boston, so this amused me greatly.) What’s fun is the fallout from that is the midpoint of the story, so we actually get to see the part where everyone makes up and becomes one big, happy, found family. Which makes this sound like I think it was corny, and that’s not the case. I really did enjoy the book.
