Garden Notes

The brassicas are in the ground. Which really should have happened a couple weeks ago. My winter sown broccoli looks great, and I had a single kale and single romesco. So I bought some more kale to pad that out. But I had to deal with this:

It took me two days to dig out all the violets and strawberries from the back bed. It’s my own fault, really. I let them go way too much last year. I do like having them as ground cover behind the bed, but I must do better about keeping them out of the bed itself. (I think I lost some of the right edge – the bed’s not as long as it should be. So I’ll probably edge that out this fall. I can live with this for this summer as is.)

We were in VT this past weekend, so hit two old reliables along the way. Here’s that haul:

Some of this is for the BF – he’s been dying to let an artichoke go to thistle for years, and they had some nice seedlings at Clearbrook Farm.

The only problem now is getting these planted. It’s continuing to be a ridiculously rainy spring, so we’ll see how long it takes to get everything in the ground.
