The garden didn’t do too badly while I was gone. I enlisted my mother to come over and water. There were some nice sunny days, so some things grew in quite nicely. It hasn’t been warm enough for the peppers and basil to be thrilled, but they’re doing ok. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the dahlias did. I’d actually given up on one of the tubers, but had left it in the sun, and it sprouted while I was away. (That’s Lady Darlene – it’s on the watch list this year. It’s only bloomed one time in each of the past two years, so if it repeats that performance, it won’t be stored over this winter.)

I’d kept the yellow dahlia for the back bed with the rest of the dahlias out back, since it would be more sheltered, so that finally went in the ground out front last night. Interestingly, the geranium in this bed seems to be growing up instead of out this year. We’ll see if it continues that trend.

We went out today for a few more things to round out some holes we didn’t shop for before we left. The lobelia and the yellow nemesia are going to go around the artichoke in its pot. I also grabbed a dianthus that I really liked the look of.
