I’ve been meaning to read this for a while, but finally got around to it by a combination of vacation time, and a desire to see how well it lines up to the tv show.
This is a quick read – our narrator is a partially organic construct who has managed to hack its governor module, and therefore doesn’t actually have to help out the latest humans it’s been contracted to be the Secbot for. But it’s definitely intrigued by the humans, and sticks around to help them when they get in way over their heads on a terraforming scouting mission.
The tv show has stayed pretty true to this story – Secbot’s profound discomfort around humans is so much fun to read (and watch). I discovered I’m only chapter away from the end of the story, so I’m interested to see how they stretch that out to get another tv episode. And I’ll be reading more – I want to see where our hero goes further on their journey.
