Divinity 36: Tinkered Starsong – Gail Carriger

This book is fairly different than Carriger’s other work – it’s scifi, so there’s definitely a different vibe than her steampunk work. Phex is a refugee, working as a barista on a moon far from where he grew up. There are a number of aliens about, including a race that’s created Divinity – Pantheons of artists who create art so encompassing they’re worshiped for it. Think a Taylor Swift or Beyonce tour on galactic steroids. And Phex is recruited to try and become one of these gods.

The rest of the book is the really interesting world building of what being a god actually entails (they don’t entirely have a choice in the matter). This book is a whole lot of really atmospheric world building. It’s actually really hard to describe – there’s not a lot of plot, but the story moves a lot.

I’m honestly not really sure what to expect next. I mean, there are definitely story elements that make sense to be next in progression, but the world is so complex, I don’t know what will happen around that. Definitely intrigued to read more.
