Libriomancer – Jim C. Hines

This is a fun premise – some people have the ability to reach into books and pull thing out from them. They have to be popular books – the amount of reading and energy people are putting into them helps the magic. Johannes Gutenberg (yes, that Gutenberg) has joined them all into an organization to keep this power secret from most people.

Isaac was one of these libriomancers, but he’s been banned from using his powers (probably for good reason, as the book further explores). He stills works for them, cataloging books, but it’s been a couple years since he used his powers. Until a vampire turns up at his door, and he’s pulled back in. What we get after this is a some good world building, and a lot of interesting ideas. It actually ends pretty well too – I like having a satisfying ending so I don’t feel like things are really hanging until I can read the next book.
