Further Adventures in Domesticity

This very light blue shirt had an unfortunate encounter with a darker jacket the very first time I washed it. (I was so mad!) I’d been sitting on it for a while when it occurred to me I could overdye it. I certainly wasn’t going to ruin it anymore than it’s already been ruined.

I ended up using Rit dye – this is royal blue. I’m pretty happy with how it came out. The stitching is a different color, but at least it’s consistent, so it looks like a purposeful choice. (I’m pretty sure it’s a different material. This is a Smartwool shirt – the stitching does look a little different on the purple one I bought at the same time, but the color blends better since it’s the original colors.) I’m going to buy some dye catchers and wash it on its own the first few times – I don’t want that color migrating to anything else. But I think I can safely label this a success.
