Magic Triumphs – Ilona Andrews

I finished a series! (Ok, fine, they ended up extending this series, so there’s more to read, but I finished a unit of published books, which is a big deal for me!)

The book starts with the birth of Kate and Curran’s son Conlan, and jumps ahead to him being a very precocious toddler, which is lots of fun. And frankly, makes total sense considering who his parents are. His interactions with the casts of characters that Kate runs into the course of this adventure are the best.

There’s a very suitable big bad for the seeming end of the series – turns out it’s a dragon, the brother of the dragon that killed most of Kate’s father and aunt’s family way back in the day. You do need someone of that caliber to make Roland pay attention and actually help instead of try to invade Kate’s territory (at least temporarily). And Roland does come to a good end for the moment, with potential for the authors to bring us plenty more stories in this world.

It’s a good ending – anyone important makes an appearance, and Kate does her absolute best to save Atlanta. You can’t ask for much more.
