This book is in the companion series to the Mercy Thompson books, centering on the wolves of the Marrok’s pack in Montana. What’s fun about this book is we get to see some of the wildlings wolves, wolves who Bran has taken into his specific protection because they can’t be around regular werewolves, let alone regular people. They live in the wild around the town where most of the Marrok’s pack lives. And someone is hunting them.
Naturally, this happens when the Marrok is gone, leaving his son Charles in charge. Charles and his wife Anna have their hands full trying to manage tracking down and warnings the wildlings, while keeping everyone else safe. And naturally, wolves that old are more than they seem.
I enjoyed this book – the side characters really make it, and there’s some interesting exploration of the pack dynamics because of what’s going on. Definitely fun for fans of this world.
