Between Two Thorns – Emma Newman

Cathy has fled her abusive family, but there’s a twist- her family lives in the Nether – between the regular world and the world of the Fae, and the families there serve the Fae. Cathy would rather live in the real world, where she won’t have an arranged marriage, and can live her own life. Unfortunately, her family’s patron has tracked her down, and it’s back to the Nether she goes, and finds herself surrounded by intrigue.

I feel like I wanted a little more back story here. I’m not really sure what the Nether families are about, and it makes what goes on in this book a bit confusing. We’re supposed to care about Cathy being forced to go back there, and there are a few hints that we should, but not quite enough for real concern. I can only hope things get a little better in the rest of the series, but I’m also not sure I’m in a hurry to seek those out.
