Wonders of the Invisible World – Patricia A. McKillip

Short stories – again, great plane material.     But I also enjoyed that these are a different way of looking at McKillip’s work.    Most of these stories were not so much about the beautiful language I enjoy so much about her novels, but the stories are still wonderful.

Some favorites:

“Undine”- an unexpected, modern take on the undines that come up from streams to trap men.      How would they work in the modern world?

“The Twelve Dancing Princesses” – another unexpected take, this time on a well-known tale.

“The Kelpie” – what starts out as a woman needing to figure out how to deal with the men in her life takes an unexpected supernatural turn.    (I’m suddenly sensing a theme here.)

I also enjoyed the last tale, which is actually a speech she gave, talking about what inspires her.
