I would like to be able to say that my garden has been puttering along nicely, now that we’re in July/August, and as you can see above, it has.
I’ve even gotten my first harvest from the tomatoes and shishito peppers.
But this is what it looked like until this morning. Have I mentioned it’s been hot? So I’ve mainly just been making sure that everything has stayed watered, but most other maintenance has fallen by the wayside.
Thankfully, we had a reprieve yesterday. Temps barely made it out of the sixties (I had to put on a layer for a while. It was glorious) And it rained last night. So I got up bright and early, and cleaned up crabgrass city.
It looks much better now.
A few notes so far on the season.
Love the shishito peppers. They have a bushier habit than the jalapenos I’ve grown before. Two prettily easily fit in one large pot, so I may try two large pots next year.
That would partially be because the cauliflower was a failure. I’m going to see it through the season, to see what it does, but the above does not look promising.
The parsley was retired today. I don’t know how the purslane got in there, but the parsley never had a chance against it.
I also had a Swiss chard escapee. Well, I actually think it’s a chiogga beet, which I had planted last year. I don’t remember seeing one go to seed, so not sure how that got in the ground. And I find it hilarious that it ended up next to the Swiss chard pot. Which has gone to seed (you can barely see it disappearing behind the kale). Never had that happen before. But, like I said, it’s been hot.
