Our Crazy Spring

Stream, Green Mountain National Forest, Route 9, VT

I feel like I’ve barely posted anything in the wildflower department this spring, and there are a couple reasons for that.

Our trips to Paris and Montreal took place over a couple prime wildflower weekends. No surprise really, of course some of the nicest weekends to be away are going to be nice at home as well. So no regrets there.

However, when I was still home, this June decided to be the wettest June on record (or nearly there – it varies by exact location). It’s been really insane, and it’s not really over yet. If you look at the pictures in the Laudholm entry before this one, you’ll notice how wet all the pictures are. I’d gone down on the 4th of July because I more of less missed all the orchards last year – it got hot very quickly, and blasted everything before I really got started. I had high hopes for that Laudholm walk, and had to cut it short because the boardwalks were so slippery.

Appalachian Trailhead, Route 9, VT

The two pictures in this entry are from our drive back from VT on July 3rd. The picture above is the outflow from where the Appalachian Trail hits Route 9 in the Green Mountain National Forest. I’ve never seen that much water in that area – the stream in the header is on the other side of the road here.

My garden has been sulking. The pepper plants are not pleased with the situation. When we have gotten some sun, they’ve put on inches of growth in a day. At least my veggie garden is on a slope. I’ve been hearing tales of waterlogged nightmares.

So, we’ll see how the rest of the summer goes. I hope to post more wildflowers.
