I hadn’t read the Dragonkin books when I started this series, which was fine initially. But now that those characters have been dragged into this series, you probably need to have read those to fully get any of the future books. (I’ve now read the first three of the Dragonkin books, so I at least knew most of what was going on, but the time jump introduced a few extra characters I didn’t know about.)
I’m not sure what I really think about this story. It really felt tacked on to the Broken Earth series. I really like Annwyl and the dragons, but in this series, I want Keeley’s family. And I didn’t get as much of that as I wanted here. (And Ainsley’s whole arc really felt like we were just waiting for the obligatory smut. The Dragonkin books do smut way better.) So, I think I’m going to concentrate on reading more Dragonkin before I got back to this series, and hope they balance out the different families in the future.
