Read for the Once Upon a Time Reading Challenge.
Believe it or not, I bought this book in hardcover, when it first came out. (That would be 2008.) And unlike every other Harry Potter book, I didn’t read it immediately. It’s been sitting on a shelf mocking me, so in the grand spirit of the Once Upon a Time challenge, since this is a book of wizard’s fairy tales, I had to read it this spring.
It’s a cute book – no earth shattering additions to the Harry Potter universe, but it does contain footnotes by Professor Dumbledore, and the stories actually aren’t half bad. Everyone will recognize “The Tale of the Three Brothers”, which figures prominently in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and there are four other tales of varying levels from Disney-esque light, to full on original Grimm dark. Definitely a must read for the Harry Potter fan.
