Garden Notes

The dahlias are out of the greenhouse, and I’ve switched it over to the net covering, and put that over the brassicas. It’s a bit big for the space, but it’s tall enough, so we’ll see how it goes this year. The bottom doesn’t have a complete seal, so I’ve piled up the straw at the edges. I think I mainly need to worry about flying beasties, so I think this should work. We’ll see.

I have the dahlias lumped at the sunnier end of the garden. Two of them haven’t sprouted yet, so I wanted them where they’ll hopefully get the most sun. This probably doesn’t bode well for Lady Darlene – she wasn’t very robust last year. The other one is a new to me tuber this spring, so I’m not yet worried about that. (The other one I got from the same place, at the same time, has a small shoot.)
