All Together Dead – Charlaine Harris

In the continuing saga of Sookie Stackhouse, Sookie has been hired by the Queen of Louisiana to be her mental eyes and ears at a summit of the vampire kings and queens of much of the United States. It’s a job that Sookie takes with some misgivings, but it’s good money that she really can’t turn down.

Her former vampire flames Bill and Eric are also attending, as well as her current boyfriend, the weretiger Quinn. She finds out some interesting facts about Quinn’s past that lead me to believe the two of them won’t be together much past the next book. But the main part of the story is that the Fellowship of the Sun has threatened to do something at the summit, and it’s Sookie’s abilities that allow her to foil the plot, just in time.

After reading this book, I have to say, I’m liking the books more than the TV show. This is not to say that I don’t enjoy the TV show, but there’s something lighter and more enjoyable about the books. Some fairly awful things go down in the course of this particular story, but they work in a way that some of the more outrageous stuff on the show isn’t working for me. The world seems more cohesive, though I suppose the fact that the show and books have diverged so far at this point is part of the problem. I wonder if I like the books better because I started them first. An interesting question I’ll have to ponder the answer to.
