This book is an interesting play on vampire stories. The author uses Celtic mythology to create a different kind of origin story for a vampire family in Cornwall.
I really respect that this book was begun based on vibes – she really wanted a back story to what sounds like a very romantic ruin she saw in Cornwall. She got the atmosphere down pretty well.
She was a little too on the nose in other cases. The protagonists are Mina and Harker, and while she does own that as an homage, it’s a bit much. The drunk brother is also a bit of a problem. So I can’t say it was the best book I’ve ever read, but I enjoyed it.
