Sanctuary – Ilona Andrews

This book focuses on Roman, from the Kate Daniels books, priest of Chernobog, the god of destruction, death and darkness. Contrary to what that could make you think of how he should be as a person, we get to see Roman as a protector of the innocent and therapist to the gods.

The authors do make a point of saying that this is their interpretation of Slavic myth, but I assume the dual nature, nothing is all good and all evil, portrayal of these gods is a defining feature of that mythology. And I really enjoy it. Roman is an introverted reluctant do-gooder after my own heart. This story is just perfect – he gets to help two lost souls, and kick some butt in the process. Loved it.
