When anyone came from out of state to visit my family when I was young, we almost always brought them to Two Lights – it’s a perfect example of the rock bound coast of Maine. So I have lots of memories of scrambling around these rocks like a gazelle, and having picnics here. There’s the legendary story of when a sea gull stole a full hot dog out of my father’s hand one of the times his sister was visiting us.
We’ve continued that tradition with our visitors, although we’re more likely to do some sort of take out than a full cookout. This is one of the main reasons we get the annual state park pass. The park is down the road from Crescent Beach – you get an interesting alternate view of Richmond Island from the west side.
This is one of my favorite places to go for wildflowers. There’s a variety of habitats – seashore, woodland and several different ponds. There’s also a fair amount of disturbed habitat with some nasty invasives, which is a shame, but sadly, not unusual for this area.

This place is also fantastic for tide pooling, so we’ve brought many a child here to enjoy that.

I love this place year round. It’s right on the coast, so it’s often clearer of snow than anywhere else. And the sky is just so open. I have many times come here just to watch the waves. (There are fairly long series of photos trying to catch the perfect shot of them – it rarely works as well as watching in person.)
