Here’s the last of the dahlias that hadn’t bloomed since my last post. They prove an interesting point. My least favorite color is orange, but I’m absolutely a sucker for a good orange flower. Look at the shading on both of these!

Hurricane is the one I grew from seed several years ago, and he’s definitely not a dahlia that would be commercially viable. He’s in the foreground of the picture above, absolutely towering over everyone else in the bed. (Which explains why he took so long to bloom. I swear I pinched him back, but he definitely went for foliage first.) He’s also got that pronounced, immediately visible center. I don’t care – I love the different shades of the petals, and he’s overwintered like a champ so far. I’ll keep carrying this tuber over as long as it keeps coming back.
