Pattern: Heid Hunter by Kate Davies Designs
Yarn: Quince and Co Chickadee in the Belize Colorway
Needles: Size 3 Circs and Size 4 Circs and DPNs
I’ve been doing Kate Davies’ book clubs for the past few years – ever since Making Light, which was just so perfectly timed. I love her essays, and I love supporting a small company. So this year is Rip It Up and Start Again, which is themed around music. I don’t normally do anything when the patterns are coming out, because I usually have something else going, and I’m pretty project monogamous. But this time, I hadn’t started anything new yet (had a delay winding the yarn for my next project), and I had some left over yarn in the right weight for this project.
I loved the idea of this hat, and just had to try it. It’s so satisfying doing the decreases on the crown. I would definitely make this again. I was a little nervous with the yarn, as the pattern calls for a DK weight, and what I had was Sport, but I always go up a needle size anyway due to my tight knitting, and this worked out perfectly. I am very amused that the yarn I had is very close to the color they used in the pattern example (which a limited edition hand dye). That was completely unintentional – that just happened to be the yarn I had available in the correct weight range.
