Claudia hat

Pattern: Claudia Hat by MJ Kim
Yarn: Fibre Canopy Canopy Worsted, in the Yerba Mate colorway
Needles: 4 and 6 circs, and 6 DPNs

My second effort in this Fibre Company Canopy Worsted is a keeper. I should really have known that I much prefer hats that fit closer to my head before I started the Star Crossed Beret, but I suppose it was a good lesson to remind myself of. Still, I loved the yarn, and definitely wanted to use it in something I could wear.

The Claudia hat pattern is pretty easy, with a touch of cabling, but mostly some fairly mindless ribbing (mindless enough I was probably a little slower getting it done that I might have otherwise been because I could only do a row or so at a time before I got bored).

The clean out my knitting bag project is going pretty well. I’ve realized that the Canopy Sport I bought to make yet another hat is probably better used for making socks, as it’s a lovely lavender color that I am far more likely to wear on my feet than on my head. (I tend to be pretty conservative in my winter outwear selections. If it’s not blue, green, brown, or black, I probably won’t wear it.) So that yarn is going back in my stash.

That just leaves my Barrow socks to finish. And those have been going slowly. As much as I hate to admit it, I think I’m a bit burned out on socks. So I’m going to take a hiatus from the last two months of this year’s Sockdown year. I hate to do it, as the next two designers (Stephanie van der Linden and Anne Hansen) are both designers I love, and I have several patterns pre-picked out, but I have a sudden hankering to do some shawl work, and I think I’d be better served doing what I’m actually interested in, rather than slogging through another pair of socks. And it’s a slog right now. I love the Barrow pattern, but I’ve been very slow at completing it. It’s currently the only thing I have cast on, so I’m going to finish it off before I start anything else, just to make sure I complete it by the end of the month. After that, I have a couple ideas for small lace shawls I’ll be looking into.
