Evie Scelan works days as a courier in Boston, but she has the magical ability to scent out missing people and objects, and also occasionally takes jobs finding things. It’s a balancing act – using her ability to help people, but not bring herself to the attention of the undercurrent in Boston, and the people there that would use her abilities for ill. But when an old boyfriend calls her in the middle of the night, she’s pulled into the undercurrent, and in the process finds out much more about her abilities and her ancestry then she had bargained for.
Full disclosure: I picked this book up because I’m acquainted with the author (through her sister). I’m glad I did. The book combines Boston history and pop culture (Red Sox!) with a very interesting take on Celtic mythology. This was a pretty fast paced opening for a series, and I’m looking forward to seeing what else happens to Evie.
